Observations: This was one of the most compact flights of the season as far as time line and is surely a sign of things to come in the latter half of the season. In the early part of the day there were two distinct flight paths, one to the north and the other to the south of the count area. Eventually the influence of the wind dried up the south flight line as most birds in the early afternoon were observed to the north. By mid afternoon even the northern flight path had ceased to produce any birds resulting in an early shut down of the count. After the tremendous TV flight the last couple of weeks, todays numbers may be signal to the winding down of migration for that species, although Im sure there will be a few good days over the next week or so. Otherwise, the count was dominated by Sharp-shins and Harriers, the latter species coming by in loose groups of from 2 to 8 birds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ The primary site used by Southeastern Michigan Raptor Research (SMRR) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
