Winds were very strong out of the west-northwest. Observations: The flight was spread out and the birds were for the most part very low, being bounced around and held up by the heavy wind. The TV groups that appeared over the Canadian shoreline would be in a consolidated unit but by the time they made it over the count area, the whole line of birds would be spread over a large area, I suppose as a result of each individual having to deal with the wind on its own terms. In addition to the vultures, Accipiters continued to dominate the count including the third Northern Goshawk of the season, a juvenile. In the non-raptor category, perhaps a couple dozen Monarchs were observed today, astonishing to see flying in such windy conditions. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ The primary site used by Southeastern Michigan Raptor Research (SMRR) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
