This afternoon I saw what appeared to be a white-eyed vireo in the Civic
Garden Centre (now the Toronto Botanical Garden). It was hopping about
in low bushes immediately south of the paved path on the south side of
the barn and greenhouses, at the top of the hill at the north end of the
parking lot.

At this time of year, a yellow throated vireo would be more likely. The
yellow eye ring on this bird contrasted more with the head colour (gray,
although it was in shadow) than you'd expect in a yellow-throated. In
addition, the bright yellow on the flanks extended further back than on
a yellow-throated. The eye-ring was clearly round, and the flanks were
too yellow for a Philadelphia. However, I failed to note the throat
colour.

Directions: The Civic Garden Centre is at the SW corner of Leslie St.
and Lawrence Ave. in the Don Mills area of Toronto.
