In fact this was one of the poorest days for visibility since early in September. Winds were light southeast throughout the day. Observations: With the light breeze, the flight took some time to develop and was spread out over the entire sky. Most birds were low and did more flapping, as there was very little in the way of thermals created. Eighty percent of the flight was in a two-hour period from 1-3 pm. Although not a heavy movement, there were two highlight birds that gave very good views to most of the onlookers. In a trio of low flying Red-tails was a juvenile dark morph Swainsons Hawk. On a similar flight line a short time later was a light morph Rough-legged Hawk. A non-raptor highlight was the flyby of four out of season Common Nighthawks. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ The primary site used by Southeastern Michigan Raptor Research (SMRR) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
