At 11:30pm, Thursday, September 25th, 2003, this is
the Hamilton Naturalists' Club Birding Hotline Report.
The Hotline is normally revised on Thursday, unless an
unusual bird turns up in the Hamilton area.

In terms of Mother Nature's fury - 'Izzy was a fizzy'
in Southern Ontario. However, for birders around the
Great Lakes it was excellent. Locally, a WILSON'S

produced some great sightings, including BLACK-CAPPED
PETREL, SOOTY TERN, and GREATER SHEARWATER at Crystal
Beach, LEAST TERN at Prospect Point Road, plus
BLACK-CAPPED PETREL, POMARINE JAEGER, and PARASITIC
JAEGER at Waverly Beach near Fort Erie. Things were
good on the American side as well with BAND-RUMPED
STORM PETREL, SOOTY TERN, BRIDLED TERN, CAVE SWALLOW,
and ARCTIC TERN seen at Hamlin Beach State Park, BLACK
SKIMMER at Oswego Harbour, and WILSON'S STORM PETREL,
LAUGHING GULL, RED PHALAROPE, RED-NECKED PHALAROPE and
ARCTIC TERN at Cayuga Lake. All of these locations are
in upper New York State.

Aside from 'hurricane birds', a ROSS'S GOOSE turned up
at Selkirk Provincial Park on Monday. It was seen
among CANADA GEESE in the field immediately west of
the Park.

In and around the RBG this past week, MAGNOLIA
WARBLER, BLACK & WHITE WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER, RED-EYED VIREO and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET were
seen on the North Shore Trails, and BROAD-WINGED HAWK,
AMERICAN KESTREL, MERLIN, PEREGRINE FALCON,

That's all for this week. Be sure to let us know about
your sightings. Leave your name, telephone number, as
well as the time and date of your call. Sightings can
also be reported by e-mail.
