It's about 11:10 p.m. and outside the thrushes are moving through in
astounding numbers .. I estimate that about 5 thrushes per second are flying
over my house in Ajax as we speak ... I listened for about 20 minutes and
the numbers stayed consistently within this range. Most are Swainson's, but
a several Grey-cheeked are also evident. Additionally many warblers are
flying as well.

Today, I had the opportunity to witness something I've seldom seen - a
juvenile/female Ruby-thr. Hummingbird was at my petunias and suddenly it
flew straight up to a height of about 8 meters and hovered motionless for a
few seconds. Curious as to what was happening, I put my binoculars on it and
saw it catching tiny flies repeatedly. It hovered and maneuvered slowly
through the "flock", opening its beak widely and then snapping it shut. It
did this until the entire visible "flock" was gone. It then briefly moved
to a new spot, but no bugs were evident and then flew out of site.
