To all Hurricane waif chasers: The centre of the storm (eye) should have now crossed Lake Erie and should have made landfall near Port Stanley. With the continuing gale force easterly winds, look for any seabirds that may have been transported in the "eye" either on the east side of southerly extensions of land or in sheltered harbours in the area. Further east, Turkey Point beach or the Inner Bay of Long Point may be other areas to look.
When the winds switch to gale force westerly later this afternoon and evening, concentrate on the west sides of southerly extensions of land such as Long Point beach both inside and to the north of the Provincial Park. Continue to check sheltered harbours in the area. Tomorrow, with the westerly winds expected to continue, pelagic birding may be good at the entrance of the Niagara River at the extreme east end of Lake Erie or off the piers at Pt. Colborne. These were the places to be after Hurricane Fran, which is a similar storm to this one in at least its storm track, although it was more intense storm at landfall along the Atlantic Coast.
