Hi Ontbirders, Manson Fleguel and myself birded Westmeath Provincial Park and the Pembroke waterfront this morning. At the marina in Pembroke, there was an adult with a young CASPIAN TERN. They were loafing on the rock jetty that runs into the Ottawa River viewable east of the marina berm.
In Westmeath PP, on a walk in from Sand Point Rd. along the beach going east, we saw 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a LESSER GOLDEN-PLOVER, several BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, several NORTHERN HARRIERS and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK. For WPP, take County Rd 12 towards the town of Westmeath and turn left to the river on Sand Point Rd. The area is good for shorebirds in low water in late Sep and Oct. This is a good spot for finding Sharp-tailed Sparrows in late Sep and early Oct, but is hit and miss. They are found in damp beach vegetation, well inside the Park.
