Weekly report from the Cabot Head Research Station of the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory
(September 9th - September 15th)

Early in the week, waves of migrants were still passing through in good numstarted. The species were similar, in general, than the previous week Black-Throated Green Warblers, American Redstarts, Red-eyed Vireos, Black-capped Chickadees and Red-breasted Nuthaches.

The 10th of September was especially good, with 14 banded Black-throated Green Warblers, 16 banded American Redstarts, 5 Red-eyed Vireos, and 4 Swainson’s Thrushes. Also worth noting that day are the 2 banded Black-billed Cuckoos, the first banded Yellow-banded Flycatcher for the fall, as well as the first Philadelphia Vireo and Eastern Pheobe.

Lots of Common Loons are seen daily on the Georgian Bay, along with a few Red-necked Grebes.

The last 2 days of the week, no banding was done because of rainy conditions.

Cabot Head Research Station is located near Dyer’s Bay, on the Bruce Peninsula. Acces to the station is limited. Please contact us for a visit.
