The Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch platform is a great spot for birders of all
ilk to gather. Today, over 3 hours in the AM a number of us were treated to
the calling of Virginia Rail, Coot and Sora, along with seeing in flight
Green Herons, Hooded Mergansers, Wood Ducks, many Mallards, etc.
On our pathway we are being entertained by very many Hummingbirds.

For 2 hours we viewed distant huge black clouds of billions of
"gnats"---midges?, while on the platorm in the early afternoon was a species
of JUMPING MOUSE.

Re. raptors we watched a Merlin and Peregrine cavorting for 45 minutes, the
Merlin periodically harassing the sl.larger PG.

Migrant raptors were few today--1 Osprey, 5 Sharp-shinned hawks, 1 Am.
Kestrel and 3 Merlins.

Cranberry is at the foot of Hall's Rd. in southwest Whitby-- Hall's is 1
block east of Lakeridge, running south from Victoria St.
