The winds were initially from the northeast but switched to the east then to the east-southeast. These are not favorable winds at any time at this site and given the early date, only a few birds were recorded. Observations: In all, the total for the day was 24 birds of 6 species. As a point of interest, we have been keeping a record year to year of the first bird tallied. This season the honor went to an Osprey seen crossing well to the east over Lake Erie at 8:58 am EST. Certainly the most obvious migrants today were Monarchs. They were going by at a steady pace all day and probably numbered in the low thousands by days end.
