AMHERST I. [page 36, quad E54 & E55]
Sunday, Aug. 24, Paul Mackenzie, Joel Ellis and I checked the KFN property
at the east end of the Island. We found many SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 7
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 10 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 3 BAIRD'S and 4 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, 6 S. B. DOWITCHERS and 1 STILT SANDPIPER.
DIRECTIONS: The ferry to Amherst I. leaves from a dock at the western side
of Millhaven. It is reached from the 401 by taking exit 593 south to
Millhaven. Jog right about 100 m. On Hwy 33 to the dock. The ferry costs
$5.00 Cdn return and starts at 6:20 a.m. Then 7:30 and thereafter on the
half hour. The KFN property is on the east side of the Lower Road.
PRINCE EDWARD POINT. [page 35, quads G&H52 & G53]
Sunday, Aug. 24, Paul Mackenzie, Ron Weir, Joel Ellis and I went to the
Point and found a few warblers at the Traverse: NASHVILLE, YELLOW,
CHESTNUT-SIDED, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLACKPOLL,
BLACK-AND-WHITE and C. YELLOWTHROAT. In the same area there were 2
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS, BROWN THRASHERS, TOWHEES and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS.
There was an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER near the DUCKS DIVE building.
OTHER SIGHTINGS
At Cartwright Point, CAROLINA WRENS are still calling daily from the CFB
Kingston and from several spots in the Point area. SCREECH OWLS have been
heard several times this week, in the early morning [P36, D56], {page 48 &
49, quads N20 & M21}
