This morning, August 30th, there were small numbers but a good variety of
shorebirds at the Nonquon lagoons in Port Perry, all in the most westerly
pond.

Stilt Sandpiper -             2juv
Baird's Sandpiper -         2juv
Dunlin -                         1juv
Short-billed Dowitcher -   1
Pectoral Sppr.                6
Semipalamated Plover -   6
Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers
both Yellowlegs
Killdeer and Spotted Sandpipers

Good variety of ducks - 11 species including 11 imm. Hooded Mergs, a few
young Ruddy Ducks, a female/imm. Bufflehead which has been there all month.
The 2 resident tagged Trumpeter Swans.
Over 400 Boneys.
A few Caspian and Black terns.
Green Heron, family of Pied-billed Grebes.
Pileated Woodpecker flying along edge of woods.
The only raptor was a resident Red-tail in spite of the strong NW winds
which may have pushed migrants south towards the lake.

To enter the lagoons you must have a permit which can be purchased at the
Durham Region Transfer Station at 1623 Reach Road, Port Perry. Turn east on
Reach Road off Hwy.12 one traffic lights north of the lights at Hwy.7A.
The Station is open 8am-4pm Tuesday through Saturday and the May 1-October
31 permit costs $5.
The lagoons are one road north of Reach Road, on the south side of Scugog
Line 8, east off Hwy.12.
