>From Paul Prior ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Just a little more detail on the whereabouts of the Leslie St. Spit avocet, as reported by Hugh Currie earlier this am. The bird is feeding along a small beach in the first embayment after the footbridge. To get there you should:
cross the footbridge and then continue along the main road until you reach the "Jerry on the Spot" on the N side of the road (about 100m). Turn north off the road at this point and proceed down the path to the large clearing (I think there used to be some picnic tables here ...); cross the clearing and take the small sandy path which veers to the west and reaches the beach. The avocet was feeding along the beach to the left of this access point. Another observer reported a red knot at the same location. As far as I know the avocet was still there at about 10am.
