This Morning I made a trip along the shore between Southampton and Port
Elgin. There are still quite a few Greater Yellowlegs passing through. Other
birds of note were a lone American Black bellied Plover on Horshoe Bay. On
Mirimichi Bay were a number of Semipalmated Plover, Kildeer, one Lesser
Yellowlegs, six Greater Yellow legs, 12 Dunlin, a Pectoral Sandpiper,
numbers of Juvenile Mallards, and a large number of Canada Geese. There are
also some Great Egrets still feeding along the shore as well.
In Macgregor Park were numbers of American Redstarts still feeding young
Black Throated Green Warblers, Nashville Warblers, Black Capped Chickadee's
with families and Northern Cardinals.
To get to Mirimichi bay and Horseshoe Bay turn west of Hwy.#21 between
Port Elgin and Southampton and travel towards lake, turn right at the first
intersection and go north. Here the road winds around both bays giving good
views of all birds which were close to the road.
To get to MacGregor Park take the 4th conc. of Saugeen west and follow
the signs to the park. There are numerous trails that afford good birding
with the Tower Trail being the best at this time of year.
