At 5:30pm today at Algonquin (St?/Rd?) and Ferris St in North Bay a BLACK
VULTURE was observed circling the Harvey's/Swiss Chalet Parking lot. The
bird was observed for ~3 minutes before it drifted off in an SE direction.
The vulture showed white wing patches, a short tail, no dihedral while
circling. I am familiar with black vultures having seen them most recently
in May '03 in North Carolina. This may be the first record for North Bay.
I would suggest that interested birders in the North Bay area perhaps check
local landfill sites as the bird may show up there with turkey vultures.
