OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE   MONDAY July 28 AT 9:30 PM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

The Ottawa River remains high but an increasing number and variety
of migrant shorebirds are being reported.

On July 26th and 27th at Shirley's Bay there was a Solitary
Sandpiper, 11 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher and many
Spotted Sandpipers.  At Andrew Hayden Park east the exposed
sandbar hosted a Caspian Tern on the 24the and 27th as well as 1
Greater and 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 5 Semipalmated Plovers, 7
Semipalmated Sandpipers and a Ruddy Turnstone.

Nine species of shorebirds were found at the large pond on Moodie
Dr south of the Trail Rd landfill including 1 Semipalmated Plover,
Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers,
2 Short-billed Dowitchers and 2 Wilson's Phalaropes on the 27th.

Other notable sightings included a family of 1 adult and 3
juvenile Eastern Screech Owls in the trees at the bike path at the
end of Burland St, west of Lakeside Gardens, on the evening of
July 23rd, 10 Gray Partridges at Sarsfield and Regimbald Rds east
of Ottawa on the 25th and an adult Bald Eagle flying over the
parking lot at Shirley's Bay on the 27th.

The Red-headed Woodpeckers at the old burn site along Whistler Rd
on Constance Bay nested successfully.  3 adults and 2 juveniles
were observed feeding here on the 26th.
