OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE MONDAY July 14 AT 8:30 AM
This is Chris Lewis reporting.
Breeding bird season is winding down and shorebirds are beginning
to move through in small numbers. At the Embrun sewage lagoons
water levels are high in all the ponds. Two Canada Geese, one
male Ruddy Ducks, a few Wood Ducks and several families of
Mallards were the only waterfowl present here on the 13th.
Shorebirds included 1 Greater and 1 Lesser Yellowlegs, 4 Spotted
Sandpipers, a few Least Sandpipers and 4 juvenile Wilson's
Phalaropes.
At the Casselman lagoon on the 13th, there were 6 Ruddy Ducks, a
few Lesser Yellowlegs and Spotted Sandpipers, one Sanderling, good
numbers of Semipalmated and Least Sandpipers and one Wilson's
Snipe and at the High Falls Conservation Area in Casselman there
were also numbers of Lesser Yellowlegs and Spotted Sandpipers the
same day.
Also of interest was a Lincoln's Sparrow in the Mer Bleue
Conservation Area in the trees on the west side of the boardwalk
near the wooden bench and on the 11th, a very vocal Merlin perched
briefly on an apartment building on Morisset Ave in Carlington
Heights.
