At 4:00pm, Thursday, July 10th, 2003, this is the
Hamilton Naturalists' Club Birding Hotline Report. The
Hotline is normally revised on Thursday nights, unless
an unusual bird turns up in the Hamilton area. 

The best sighting of the week was a possible
BOAT-TAILED GRACKLE or GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE seen
briefly over the weekend in St. Catharines.
Unfortunately, follow up searches were unsuccessful,
but the Hotline will be updated if a confirmed
sighting is made.

This week's reports are scattered and varied. Here is
a rundown of locations and the birds reported there
during the past week:

Grimsby Sewage Lagoons - SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER,
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, LEAST
SANDPIPER, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, and a juvenile SORA
RAIL.

Courtcliff Park - BLUE-GRAY GNATCATHCER and
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER.

Kerncliff Park - SOLITARY SANDPIPER, GREAT-CRESTED
FLYCATHCER, and two (possibly three) pairs of VIRGINIA
RAILS.

Curry Tract - INDIGO BUNTING, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER,
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, SCARLET
TANAGER, VEERY, WOOD THRUSH, PINE WARBLER, RED-EYED
VIREO, and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK.

The Hermitage, Ancaster - TUFTED TITMOUSE (with
young), EASTERN PHOEBE, EASTERN WOOD PEWEE, INDIGO
BUNTING, and a pair of COOPER'S HAWKS.

Other local reports include OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER on
Twiss Road, BREWSTER'S WARBLER on the Dundas Valley
Rail Trail, BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON and PINE WARBLER
at LaSalle Park, OSPREY in the Hendrie Valley, four
RED-THROATED LOONS and a GREAT EGRET at Confederation
Park, plus a pair of COOPER'S HAWKS with young on the
west side of Gage Park.

Out of town, a good number and variety of shorebirds
turned up at Rock Point Provincial Park, including
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER, LEAST SANDPIPER, LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, KILLDEER, and CAROLINA
WREN.
