At 10:40am, Thursday, July 3rd, 2003, this is the
Hamilton Naturalists' Club Birding Hotline Report. The
Hotline is normally revised on Thursday nights, unless
an unusual bird turns up in the Hamilton area. 

Lots of sightings from the RBG this past week. On the
North Shore Trails, one observer reported seeing pairs
of ORCHARD ORIOLES, EASTERN BLUEBIRDS and WOOD
THRUSHES. At the Berry Tract, there were BLUE-WINGED
WARBLERS and an EASTERN TOWHEE, and neaby at Rock
Chapel, several observers noted BROWN THRASHER,
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, and EASTERN MEADOWLARK. 

Elsewhere, birds seen at Courtcliff Park include
BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, INDIGO
BUNTING, MOURNING WARBLER, WARBLING VIREO, EASTERN
WOOD PEWEE, FIELD SPARROW, SAVANNAH SPARROW, and
EASTERN MEADOWLARK. A pair of RED-NECKED GREBES were
spotted on the lake at Shoreacres/Paletta Park, and
seven RED-THROATED LOONS were loafing close to shore
at Confederation Park. 

A trip to Martin's Road in Ancaster/Dundas was
rewarded with HOODED WARBLER, PILEATED WOODPECKER,
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, INDIGO
BUNTING, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, RED-EYED VIREO, and
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER.

Last but not least, fall migrants - yes, you heard
right - fall migrants seen at the Grimsby Sewage
Lagoons this past week include WILSON'S PHALAROPE,
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, and LESSER
YELLOWLEGS. 150 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were also reported
from this location.
