At 8:00pm, Thursday, June 26th, 2003, this is the Hamilton Naturalists' Club Birding Hotline Report. The Hotline is normally revised on Thursday nights, unless an unusual bird turns up in the Hamilton area.
We have liftoff! All three of Hamilton's PEREGRINE FALCON chicks have taken flight, even the heavyweight, Hunter, who weighs in at just over a kilogram (almost twice as heavy as her two brothers Jackson and Bold). Other than that it was another light week for reports. A local observer photographed an immature BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON this past week at Shoreacres/Paletta Park, as well as a GREEN HERON at Lakeview Park in Burlington. Other local reports include CLAY-COLORED SPARROW and BLUE-WINGED WARBLER near Westover, UPLAND SANDPIPER on Regional Road 3 near Port Dover, ORCHARD ORIOLE, NORTHERN HARRIER, and SEDGE WREN northeast of Bronte Provincial Park, a singing male HOODED WARBLER on the Bruce Trail about 4km west of Grimsby, and COMMON NIGHTHAWK and CHIMNEY SWIFT in central Hamilton. That's it for this week, be sure to let us know about your sightings this week. Leave your name, telephone number, as well as the time and date of your call. Sightings can also be reported by e-mail.
