Hi Birders, I covered Rondeau's south point trail this morning (Sunday) and came across a male BLACKPOLL WARBLER I first heard it several times, then found it feeding in an oak. Obviously a record late spring migrant for the park. (The previous late I had was on June 9 last year). I also had a singing male CANADA WARBLER, which could be a very late migrant. (I had one before considered a migrant on June 17, 2001). The Canada was about a five minute walk from the parking lot (end of Lakeshore Road), and the Blackpoll was about fifteen minutes from the lot. Not much else of note there.
At Blenheim Lagoons there was a good variety of ducks, including the male Redhead (there several weeks), male Lesser Scaup, Pintail, both Teals, Wigeon, Shoveller, Ruddy and Mallard (large no.). Lagoon directions: Blenheim is located between Chatham and Rondeau Provincial Park. Exit the 401 at what they used to call Hwy. 40, exit 90. Go south to Blenheim. At the main street in Blenheim (stop light) turn right/west. Go out of Blenheim on this road (old Hwy.3, now called the Talbot Trail) for approx. 1.5 km. Turn right (north) on Lagoon Rd. (at carwash) and continue north 1 km. to the lagoons. I remind you that you should have a permit from the town office (35 Talbot St.) located in Blenheim. ________________________________ Blake A.
