The following are highlights of 2 weeks of atlassing in the area east of
Burks Falls (Parry Sound district - 35kms north of Huntsville) extending
from Three Mile/Pickerel Lakes east to Sand Lake and the upper Magnetawan
River.

On June 17th, a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was heard on a small private lake about
1km east of Three Mile Lake.

About 1.3kms to the south east at a hunt camp north of Cherry Hill Rd., a
SEDGE WREN was heard singing. (To access this location, turn east off Hwy
11 onto Three Mile Lake Rd. at Katrine. Follow for about 3kms, then turn
right on Cherry Hill Rd. After another 1500m, a track heads off to the left
(northward) where Cherry Hill Rd. takes a sharp bend to the right. Follow
this track about 700m to the hunt camp and listen for the Sedge Wren. High
clearance is recommended or better yet, hike it. Also heard on this track
were 2 CANADA WARBLERS, 2 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSHES, and a SCARLET TANAGER
among others.)

A pair of GRAY JAYS was found on June 7th in a stand of Spruce along the
Magnetawan River Algonquin access road approximately 1000m east of its
junction with Hwy 518.

At the bridge where Hwy 518 crosses the Magnetawan River the "gik gik gik
gidik..." of a male VIRGINIA RAIL was heard on June 4th.

MOURNING WARBLERS are quite numerous in the area with 2 males found on
Cherry Hill Rd (200m east of hunt camp trail), 2 on Garage Rd. north of the
Chetwynd Rd. junction and one on Chetwynd Rd. 2kms east of this junction.
(These two roads can be accessed by heading east out of Burk's Falls.
