Highlights of reports received May 29 through June 5 from
the Niagara Frontier Region include MISSISSIPPI KITE, GOLDEN
EAGLE, probable SUMMER TANAGER, "LAWRENCE'S WARBLER", SEDGE
WREN and a record Big Day.

From Chautauqua County, May 30, at the Ripley Hawkwatch in
the Town of Westfield, a MISSISSIPPI KITE and a GOLDEN EAGLE
were reported. There is only one previous record of
MISSISSIPPI KITE in the BOS archives, and there are no
records of GOLDEN EAGLE during the month of May.

June 2, in the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, a
probable first year SUMMER TANAGER was reported along the
trail south of Owens Road, near Meadville Road. A male
"LAWRENCE'S WARBLER" was also found nearby. Directions to
the "LAWRENCE'S WARBLER" - on the west side of Meadville
Road, south of the houses at Owens Road, follow a path cut
through the grass field, then turn left onto a wooded trail
that leads to a small stream, where the warbler was located.

A rare SEDGE WREN has been found at the Mallard Overlook in
the Iroquois Refuge. And a WHITE-EYED VIREO was in the woods
opposite the entrance to the overlook. Two WHITE-EYED VIREOS
continue to be found on Belson Road in Westfield.

In Ontario, June 2, at Rock Point Park in Dunnville, over
1000 D.-CREST. CORMORANTS on Mohawk Island. Also in the
park, 11 CASPIAN TERNS, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 28 RUDDY
TURNSTONES, several SEMIPALM. SANDPIPERS and LEAST
SANDPIPERS and TENNESSEE WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER and
CANADA WARBLER. At Morgan's Point in Wainfleet, a high count
  of 74 RED-BR. MERGANSERS plus BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 3 RUDDY
  TURNSTONES, 4 WHITE-R. SANDPIPERS and WILSON'S WARBLER.
Unlike last week, there were no WHIMBRELS reported this week
  from the Lake Erie shore.

A Big Day on June 2 established a New York State record for
the month of June - 158 species in 24 hours. The effort
covered Allegany County, the Iroquois Refuge area and
Buffalo. Highlights were 2 NOR. SAW-WHET OWLS and NASHVILLE
WARBLER at Hanging Bog in the Town of New Hudson. PRAIRIE
WARBLER on White House Road, also in New Hudson. CLAY-COL.
SPARROW and GRASSHOPPER SPARROW heard along Pingrey Road,
south of the tower in the Town of Andover, and please note
the pine plantation on Pingrey is private property. At
Palmers Pond State Forest in the Town of West Almond, 2 RED
CROSSBILLS and WHITE-THR. SPARROW. And in the Oak Orchard
Area, GOLDEN-WING. WARBLER at Podunk and Knowlesville Road.

June 5, at the Tillman Area in Clarence, on the landfill
mounds, 3 UPLAND SANDPIPERS and 2 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS.

Other reports this week - 57 CASPIAN TERNS at Dunkirk
Harbor. Single COMMON NIGHTHAWKS in Buffalo over Shirley
Avenue and the UB Main Street Campus. At Chestnut Ridge Park
in Orchard Park, 2 PINE WARBLERS at the shelter 28A. In
Amherst, an unexpected NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD at Millersport
and I-290. And in West Seneca, a surprising observation of a
YELLOW-THR. VIREO hovering at a picture window.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, June 12.
Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may
report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and
