Hi All,
As mentioned in Alan's report, migrants were plentiful and singing in
Rondeau this morning. Finally a decent birding day!
Birding with Steve Charbonneau, Keith and Jim Burk, we had at least 23
species of warblers. Still quite a few Yellow-rumps, Black-throated Greens,
and Black-and Whites around. A Prothonotary (with banded right leg) is
reliable on Bennett Ave. Mourning Warblers are plentiful--we had about 6.
We also had a couple of Blue-winged (hopefully will nest again this year).
On south point trail we had at least 4 White-eyed Vireos, as well as many
Philadelphia and Red-eyed, and still many Blue-headed. We found the
Clay-colored Sparrow early in the morning just before the first bench on the
beach.
At the beginning of Marsh trail we had nice male Cape May Warbler--scarce
yet this year. Farther out the Marsh Trail we had two singing Sedge Wrens.
While listening to these we saw some raptors in the distance--one was
determined to be a sub-adult MISSISSIPPI KITE. It was heading south (about
12:30 pm.), but never to be seen again.
Off south point trail parking lot (east beach) I observed about 40 Whimbrel
circling around (about 3 pm.).
