Oshawa Second Marsh/ McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve/Darlington Provincial
Park report for evening of May 13.

A drake EURASIAN WIGEON was in the Second Marsh with a group of 6 AMERICAN
WIGEON drakes. The group was foraging between the tern islands just north of
the east viewing platform. Also in the marsh this evening a small flock of
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, BLACK TERNS, TRUMPETER SWANS ( including the neck
collared R39), and a
lingering TUNDRA SWAN.

The large rafts of BONAPARTE'S GULLS and small numbers of LITTLE GULLS
offshore in Lake Ontario are quickly shrinking. Each evening a visible
migration of these gulls in a NW direction can been seen between 5pm and
dusk. The Alewife and Emerald Shiners appear to be inshore spawning. Large
flocks of common gulls species are enjoying the feast. Also feeding close to
shore today were a HORNED GREBE( off McLaughlin Reserve), several COMMON
LOONS, 2 RED-NECKED GREBES, and a RED-THROATED LOON at Darlington
Provincial Park. Also seen were WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS ( off the Second
Marsh), LONG-TAILED DUCKS(mostly in breeding plumage now) and a large flock
of immature COMMON GOLDENEYES. On the beach at Darlington there was a lone
RUDDY TURNSTONE.

With the strong north west wind most passerines were observed foraging
within Darlington Provincial Park. Small numbers of warblers including
BAY-BREASTED WARBLER. small numbers of SCARLET TANAGERS, BALTIMORE
ORIOLES,BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, and GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHERS were observed
