Birders,
While probably classified as a slow day by Pelee
standards, it was possible to see 100 species inside
the park gate on May 6.

A Grasshopper Sparrow stayed in the open most of the
day along the west seasonal trail. Also along the
trail were a Willow Flycatcher, a Sedge Wren, a
Clay-coloured Sparrow and a second Grasshopper
Sparrow.

A few N. Waterthrushes were at temporary ponds along
the Schuster and Woodland Trails. I counted 6 Blue-
winged warblers and 15 Blackburnian between Tildens
and the Tip. Six American Redstarts sang along the
Woodland trail. Many Veeries and Wood Thrushes sang
in Woodland and Tildens, and 3 Winter Wrens were still
present.

On May 7, A Lawrence's Warbler hybrid fed about five
to ten feet off the ground along the east side of the
tip. It was visible from the boardwalk along with an
Orange Crowned warbler. A Red-necked Grebe, and a
Black Tern were at the very tip along with
Sanderlings,
Ruddy Turnstones and American Pipits.

A few Bobolinks flew overhead. On both days a small
reverse migration of Orioles, Nashvilles, Yellow
Warblers, Indigo Buntings and Eastern Kingbirds left
the tip for Ohio.

Good birding,
