Hi Ontbirds people,

Ya, we know you're all in Pelee or Rondeau right now, but for those who are
still interested in Ottawa-area birds...

1) The male TUFTED DUCK discovered on 30 April was still present at Shirleys
Bay today (4 May) , seen on both the east & west sides of the dyke by Bob
Bracken, Bernie Ladouceur, Chris Lewis, Jan Slumkoski & Mike McKenna.
2) A SNOWY EGRET in breeding plumage was spotted by Ray Holland in the
village of Carp, just west of Ottawa yesterday (3 May), heading west over
Donald B. Munro Rd. Not re-located today.

DIRECTIONS:
1) Tufted Duck - Take Hwy 417 west to Moodie Dr. Go north to Carling Ave.,
then west approx. 2 km. on Carling to Rifle Rd. (formerly Range Rd.) Take
Rifle Rd. to the end (the boat launch) and scan the bay. **PLEASE NOTE - to
access the dyke, call the Range Control Office (613) 991-5740, and ask for
permission.
2) Snowy Egret - Take Hwy 417 west to the Carp exit, go north to the village
of Carp along Carp Rd. to the main intersection with Donald B. Munro Rd. If
the Egret sticks around, it may be anywhere near this location.

Also of interest in the Ottawa area this weekend: A male EURASIAN WIGEON on
the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, discovered on 30 April by Jean Dubois,
was re-discovered on 3 May and may still be present. Take Hwy 50 in Quebec
from Hull east to the Masson exit(the end of the line). Go south towards
Masson and turn west onto the 148, then proceed for approx. 5 - 5.5 km. Look
for the signs to the conservation area "Riviere des Outaouais - Sect. Lac
Carpentier & Petit Baie Clement" and go south on Rue du Ruisseau past the
mobile homes to the end of the gravel drive. There are 2 forks on the gravel
road - both will afford excellent views of this marsh area.

Warblers & other migrants are also returning here - Good spring birding at
last!
