This afternoon my girlfriend, Adele Coull, and I took a walk on the Port Hope waterfront trail between 1:00 and 2:00. No exceptional rarities but there were birds of interest: Merlin: female with a freshly caught blackbird Northern Shoveler: 2 males Marsh Wren Bonaparte's Gull: Hundreds on the lake Common Moorhen: Calling Warbling Vireo Palm Warbler Belted Kingfisher Killdeer Mute Swan Tree Swallow
P.S. on April 30th there was at least 3 Sora's in the marsh. I imagine there would be more activity on the trail in the morning. Directions: From the 401, exit at Port Hope/Bewdley and follow Ontario Street south until highway 2/Peter Street, turn left at the lights. At the next set of lights turn right and follow the road along the lake until you reach the gravel parking lot, the waterfront trail is to the left of the parking lot. Good Birding!
