Just prior to the big winter storm of April 5, along Mt. Pleasant Road in
Bonfield Twp. about 20 miles east of North Bay, A yb Spscker appeared amidst
some smallish willows, very near to where a classic Red-shouldered Hawk flew
across from us and then down an abandoned field, to be then lost amidst the
bush.
Prior to that at the edge of Hwy 533, 5 miles north of Mattawa, 40 miles
due east of North Bay a surprising Hermit Thrush showed up, trying to find
sustenance amidst the snow in some small black berries near the road.
Along Argo Run off hwy 533, 3 miles north of Mattawa 3 American Woodcock
peemitted us to watch them from 10 feet away as they found worms in a small
rivulet along the edge of the road. Amidst newly fallen snow they sure
looked great!
So - some keen migrants have made their way this far north in this
slowly gathering spring.
