A flock of at least 70 Tundra Swans is present in the Ellice Swamp north of Stratford off Perth County Road 44. Also in the water there are 24 Pintail and a pair of American Widgeon (along with the ubiquitous canada Geese and Mallard Ducks). Even though the domesticated swans cannot yet be released into the still-frozen Avon River in Stratford, wild, migrating birds are finding open water elsewhere to settle. In the fields south of the road in the same spot as the swans were four species of raptures - Rough-legged Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, a Harrier, and mating Kestrels. Also in Northeast Hope Township, (Road 109 south of 45th Line) appeared my first Bluebird of the season.
