Attention Birding Enthusiasts!
At Bird Studies Canada our annual Red-Shouldered Hawk and Spring Woodpecker
survey is fast approaching. We are looking for volunteers to survey new
routes in the MANITOULIN ISLAND area and to fill some routes that just
became available.
The survey is completed during a single morning between 17 April and 7 May.
The survey begins within 30 minutes of sunrise, and takes approximately 3
hours to complete. A broadcast tape or CD containing pre-recorded
Red-Shouldered hawk calls and timed listening periods is played at fixed
intervals along the roadside.
We are looking for volunteers to survey new routes in the MANITOULIN ISLAND
area. This area has never been surveyed, but has shown breeding evidence of
Red-Shouldered Hawks.
The routes are new, so the actual locations are fairly flexible.
At the moment proposed routes are located:
a) From Providence Bay, East towards Tehkummah
b) Along the NW shore of Lake Manitou, heading South towards Gibraltar
Additionally, a route close to Sharbot lake has also opened. This route
begins south of Sharbot Lake, and follows a loop southeast towards St.
George Lake. A second route is available near Killbear Park in the Parry
Sound area.
Please contact Susan Debreceni by phone or email for more information if
you are interested in surveying one of these routes: toll free:
