This morning I sighted my first KILLDEER standing on one leg in the snow on the ice of Graham Creek in the Port of Newcastle off Mill St.
30 ROBINS, 8 BLACK EYED JUNCOS, 4 BLACK CAPPED CHICKADEES, 2 NORTHERN CARDINALS, 2 RED BREASTED MERGANSERS, 12 MALLARDS in the Bowmanville Creek area this morning. I counted 8 SNOW BUNTINGS, 26 HORNED LARKS beside and on Stephenson Rd. close to the lake. The WILD TURKEYS continue to feed on the protein in the manure spread by the farmer throughout the week. I counted as many as 114 at one time. The SCAUP are swimming in Lake Ontario along with the COMMON GOLDEN EYE, BUFFLEHEADS, REDHEADS, WHITE WINGED SCOTERS and LONG TAILED DUCKS, COMMON MERGANSERS and TRUMPETER SWANS. We were successful in befriending one of the TRUMPETERS, a mate to # 137, this past Thursday at noon. With the help of Harry Lumsden we tagged it with the help of several spectators. "Markus J.
