Well with the wind shifting to the south the Ice has pushed up onto the
shoreline and moved the rafts of ducks that were sitting in the bay into
the mouth of the Harbour.(Duck Birding at it's best)
Notables today were a pair of white winged scoters, Buffleheads,
Common Goldeneye's, Redheads
a great blue heron in muddy creek and a pair of house wrens in the rock
wall beside the docks.
Great Black Backed gulls are on the Ice and swans can be heard (but not
seen) calling out on the ice
I saw my first red winged black bird on the way home from work today and
4 turkeys surprised me on the side of the road (con 7 and 12)
Snow Buntings are numbering in the 100's and Red tailed hawks (usually
two or three) are evident every evening.
The back yard is producing american gold finches, red bellied wood
peckers, and a Carolina wren Cardinals are starting there mating rituals
and we have one continually trying to fight off his reflection in the
window.
Spring is coming regardless of the weather
