OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE SUNDAY MARCH 2 AT 6 PM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

Eagles were the story this week. Along the Eardley escarpment of
the Gatineau Hills, west of Luskville Québec, up to 10 Bald Eagles
of varying ages and one immature Golden Eagle were seen here on
February 26. At least three Bald Eagles were found in this area
on March 1. An adult Northern Goshawk was also present along
highway 148 just east the Eardley-Masham Rd on February 28.

An unusual place for a Bald Eagle in winter was the Ottawa River
near the Deschenes Rapids an immature bird was feeding on a dead
duck on the ice on February 15.

About 30 to 40 Common Ravens were also observed along Steel Line
Rd in Québec on March 1st, performing courtship flights.

Northern Shrikes are still around. One was seen at Bradley and
Steel Line on the 1st and another was reported today, the 2nd,
along Pinecrest Creek, south of Lincoln Fields.

Ottawa's breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons is also still in town
both have been seen regularly near the nest site at the Crowne
Plaza Hotel.

The Barred Owl south of the Rideau Tennis Club has not been seen
since February 20 but is likely still in the area.

The male Wood Duck was still present on the Rideau behind the
tennis club on March 1 and the female HARLEQUIN DUCK at this
location was last reported last weekend.

Thank-you. Good birding.
