Hi there,

I had a nice birding morning today at Burlington-Hamilton area.
The highlight was a 1st winter male King Eider seen from Spencer-Smith
Park in Burlington. The bird was seen with a mixed group of White-winged
and Surf Scoters about 200m off shore (using a scope). The plumage was
almost identical to the drawing in Sybley's but the white patches on
either side of the rear end were more contrasting and looked almost pure
white. The Eider was seen at about 9:30 am for about 20min, after that I
couldn't relocate the bird (though I did not see it fly).
I also saw 3 Red-necked Grebes, 1 Horned Grebe, 2 Ruddy Ducks and a
large numbers of the more common duck species (Canvasback, Redhead,
Ring-necked, Lesser Scaup, White-winged and Surf Scoters, Long-tailed,
Bufflehead, Common and Red-breasted Mergansers, etc.). Those were seen
at the same location and in the canal (under Burlington Skyway).
