This wonderful, sunny, 1C Feb.20 morning brought forth the likes of a raccoon, 2 coyotes and a male RING-NECKED PHEASANT along Hall's Rd. in southwest Whitby ON.
But, prior to going down to look at the waterfowl on the lake I was stopped by a birder who asked if I had seen an OSPREY (1130 AM) flying eastward over the lakefront just west of the foot of Hall's Rd., before turning north to go inland. The description given certainly sounded like an Osprey. Does anyone have the earliest-in-a-calendar-year recording in Durham Region for an Osprey? At the north pathway along Hall's Rd.--the usual Cowbirds, R-w Blackbirds, etc. but no Pine Siskins (recently reported here). Flying overhead eastward across Hall's Rd. were 14 Canadas and the 2 "resident" white Snow Geese. In Pringle Creek (at the bridge along Brock St., Whitby) were 5 Hooded Mergansers (3 female), 3 Greater Scaup (2 female), 2 White-winged Scoters, several Goldeneyes and Buffleheads.
