AMHERST I. [page 36, quad E 54 & 55]
On Feb. 1, I walked on the 10:30 ferry and stayed for 2 round trips to check
out the flock of gulls on the ice surrounding an open pond. There were 20+
HERRING GULLS plus 2 juvenile GLAUCOUS and 1 adult ICELAND GULL (Kumlien's)
and 4 or more GR. BLACK-BACKED GULLS
Janet Scott reported on Feb. 4, a N. FLICKER at her feeder at the corner of
the South Shore Rd. and the Owl Woods Rd. (Marshall Rd.).
Dave Milsom reported sightings on Feb. 6: "Today at Amherst Island were many
ROUGH- LEGGED & RED- TAILED HAWKS and 3 SNOWY OWLS. LONG-EARED OWLS in Owl
Woods but no Saw-whet found. GLAUCOUS GULL on the ice.

OTHER SIGHTINGS
At Cartwright Point [page 36, quad D56 SE corner] {page 49, quad N20} on
Feb. 1, a GREAT HORNED OWL flushed by a small flock of CROWS, a CAROLINA
WREN heard on Feb. 4, four AM. ROBINS were tossing leaves on a path near the
house and DARK-EYED JUNCO numbers have been increasing to the twenties on
Feb. 6 & 7, at #14 The Point Rd.. The SCREECH OWL was seen basking in the
box opposite #3 Woodpecker Lane on Feb. 5.
Paul Mackenzie reported on Feb. 2, "a BELTED KINGFISHER at Kingston Mills
[page 36, quad D56 NE corner] seen by walking the path down below the lock,
and a male REDHEAD; a male RED-BREASTED MERGANSER were noted among the ducks
on the Cataraqui River south of highway 401. There was a CAROLINA WREN at
our feeder 943 McKnight road, but the bird uses other feeders in the
neighbourhood and on Feb. 3, an early HOODED MERGANSER in the open water
east of the Dupont Plant's warm Pond." [page 36, quad D56, SW corner] {page

Stan Teeples reported a pair of E. BLUEBIRDS entering a nesting box by his
house at 3955 Opinicon Rd. on Jan. 31. [page 36, quad A56 & 57]
