Patience pays off!
I'm very happy to report a white morph. GYRFALCON in Thunder Bay. The bird
was seen yesterday (Thursday Jan 30) just after noon on the
Richardson-operated elevators at the north end of North Water Street, north
of Marina Park. I watched the bird for about 30 minutes, during which time
it flew once, showing a surprising broad tail and dark primaries, with white
belly and breast. I ventured out onto the lake ice to observe the bird from
the rear as it perched on one of the silos on the east jetty, and noted dark
speckling on a very white back, and its white head and tail.

My thanks to Nick Escott who provided directions to locations to a gyrfalcon
was seen in Thunder Bay over the last week or so. Interestingly, the bird
reported by Nick and others was a grey morph., suggesting that there are at
least two falcons wintering in the City.

Directions: I'm not a Thunder Bay resident, so excuse mistakes. Marina
Park is at the foot of Red River Road in Fort William (north Thunder Bay).
You can access North Water Street by crossing the railway tracks over the
Marina Park bridge and driving north along a road which runs on the
lake-side of the tracks, towards the old pool elevator and the saw mills.
