Ontbirders We had a pleasant walk in the Hendrie Valley property of the Royal Botanical Gardens in west Burlington (Aldershot) this morning (29 Jan). In addition to lots of Cardinals, Am. Robins, Cedar Waxwings, Song Sparrows etc. we had a few birds spotted by others over the past few weeks.
Brown Thrasher: at the extreme west end of the Hendrie Valley Trail. In fact this is at The Valley Inn. To get here you drive down from the north side of the High Level Bridge on York Boulevard in Hamilton (don't ramp onto Hwy 403 - it's the next right turn). Drive down and across the small bridge; turn left (north) drive along and park on the right. The feeder with the thrasher is right where you park. Gray Catbird: From the above spot walk up the lane then take the first right trail which runs along the northern edge of the creek and marsh. Shortly you will come to an elevated boardwalk. Check the feeder on the west side. Most of the birds were at the feeder at the east end of this boardwalk this morning. This is where we saw the catbird. Swamp Sparrow: We saw an immature (first basic) Swamp Sparrow at this spot also.
