OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE SUNDAY JANUARY 26 6 PM
This is Chris Lewis reporting.
A very quiet week for reports due to the brutally cold weather.
Saturday, January 18, in the Lac Lablanche area north of Mayo,
Québec, there was 1 Bald Eagle, 3 Ruffed Grouse, 2 Golden-crowned
Kinglets, approximately 10 Purple Finches, 50 White-winged
Crossbills including males singing and displaying, and
approximately 40 American Goldfinches.
The same day at Britannia, an immature Bald Eagles flushed the
ducks and gulls north of the filtration plate.
On the 20th at the Hilda Rd feeder, the Field Sparrow was still
there.
On the 23rd, 22 American Robins flew over Cedarview and
Fallowfield Rds and 1 Wild Turkey has been seen several times at
this intersection, in the trees or along the road.
On the 25th, at Diamondview Rd at the feeder at R-View farm, there
was a Northern Flicker and an adult RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen
flying over Don St south of the Britannia Conservation Area.
Remaining in the area over the past several weeks are: a Snowy Owl
at Eagleson and Rushmore Rds and another at Greenbank and
Fallowfield, a Peregrine Falcon on the south side of the R H
Coates building, a Northern Shrike at Trail Rd as well as Leitrim
Rd south of the International Airport, approximately 20 Horned
Larks along Rushmore Rd and several at Donald B Munro and Old
Coach near Carp, and a large flock of Snow Buntings on Steeplehill
Crescent. That is all.
Thank-you, good birding.
