I agree - the basics haven't changed: an A record is still an A record; iterative queries are still iterative queries; etc. But so much has changed in the DNS world these days with all the different cloud DNS providers, advances in RPZ, DNSSEC, etc. that a fresh perspective wouldn't hurt anyone. I realize I'm asking this of the bind-users list, so answers will be somewhat BIND-specific, but folks here are knowledgeable about DNS in general as well. > > Get a good foundation of the basics and then add new deltas / refinements on > top of that. > > I see no reason not to start with DNS & BIND or Jan-Piet Mens' book. > > I've never looked at Pro DNS and BIND [1], but I frequently see it show up > when I'm researching things. I've got the paper copy of this book, but the website covers newer material. I'll definitely advise folks to have a look there.
