The issue was the define ISC_SOCKET_USE_POLLWATCH. If that is defined then we see the problem of strange " sockmgr 1005a1080: unexpected POLL timeout" filling up the logs. Probably needed on Solaris 8 or 9 but those are getting very very old. Not needed on Solaris 10. so that was easy to sort out.
