You dont need to upgrade the OS to get EDNS support. If you get a current version of Bind compiled and running in your actual system, you will be good to go.
People are just reminding you that Oracle no longer support Solaris 5.8, upgrading the system is up to you, but not necessary in from Bind point of view.
