i disagree that it's easier to find and fix.  many people will simply
wrap it in a while(1) and ignore it because we don't have the time to

logging an alert and continuing -- except we now have the lag during the
restart period.  events often occur at inopportune moments.

as openswan developer I can tell you the reason ISC already has a fix out now
is precisely because of the assertions on the code. Even if most people wrap it,
someone somewhere will either not or report the message found. That message
severely limits the code ISC has to then dig (sorry) through....
