Does the city collect bike-use data? I've known of cities that conduct
more extensive bike and pedestrian surveys at the same time as the
Census ACS, so that the data can be compared on fairly equal terms.

Bikies,
Actually, IS there a source for all-the-numbers for the U.S. on
total bicycle fleet size, bikes per capita, total bike commuters,
percentage of commuters by mode, more....? I´d like to see that
["official" numbers] to try to figure out if I can find numbers to
compare them to here in Brazil where they say the total bike fleet
is 65 million and growing rapidly.
Blog post by somebody called JR:
http://www.bikeleague.org/blog/2009/09/43-increase-in-bicycle-commuting-since-2000/
"The number of bike commuters was estimated to be 786,098 +/-
16,011. If you also consider that the total number of commuters (the
denominator) has a spread of +/- 139,905 the percentages could range
from 0.534% in the worst case and 0.558% in the best case. So, even
in the worst case scenario it seems that there has been a
significant growth in bicycle commuting (hooray!)."
When I dig through the Census ACS data (http://www.census.gov/acs) I
find tables that include the following examples but nothing
specifically about bicycles - perhaps only by getting at the live
data:
Means of Transportation to Work
-Car, truck, or van - drove alone:
-Car, truck, or van - carpooled
-Public transportation (excluding taxicab)
-Taxicab, motorcycle, bicycle, walked, or other means
-Worked at home
If there is a bike-centric collection of data from the US Census
online I´d appreciate any pointers to that.

This is pulled from the League of American Bicyclists current

And apparently this is up 43% from 2000.
