Hi everyone,
I just wanted to introduce myself, and hopefully provide some awesome
bike inspiration. I just moved here from Portland, Oregon to start
grad school, and actually came here by bike tour over the summer. I
spent a brief stint as an intern at Bikeportland.org, which today is
featuring a bike that I think should come to Madison! It's being
called the "Hopworksfiets," a custom cargo bike that's built to haul
two kegs of beer underneath a wood bar, a rear rack built to carry
pizzas, and a stereo system pannier (apparently soon to feature a
solar panel).

I'm really encouraged by the debate on how best to press forward with
local advocacy, and I'll be calling DC tomorrow about the THUD
amendments. It's really the behind-the-scenes work at the local level
— not just getting bike lanes striped or putting up signs, but
creating a fun and welcoming community of riders — that makes a great
bicycling city like Madison or Portland. I'm hoping to get more
involved soon, but in the meantime, keep up the good work!
Cheers,
--Dan Liu
