In short, Blender 2.91 now continues in the blender-v2.91-release branch, for bug fixing only. Blender 2.92 development started in the master branch, for new features. For more details on how to commit and merge, see here: https://wiki.blender.org/wiki/Process/Using_Stabilizing_Branch For 2.91 the new splash-screen changed for the Beta already. This should help bring more attention to 2.91 for testing, and help people to differentiate between the 2.91 beta and master (2.92 alpha).
