Then he would be batting for the wrong team so to speak.

The theory on the boot of the car is the analogy of the "treating a
car like a lady". She has boots at the bottom and a bonnet at the top.
US-En prefer trunk and hood. Not sure if that's a girl at all! If it
is she does dress like a lady. lol :)
