It looks OK at first glance, but there could be many different problems, depending on what symptoms you are getting. First of all please use strict; use warnings; at the start of your code and declare all of your variables, then show us an example of the live data you have and the output you are getting. Could it be something as simple as not accounting for trailing whitespace on the records?
